If you Suspect it, Pre-empt it
The few hours or days following a computer crime incident are crucial. Our round-the-clock incident response services aim to identify, isolate and mitigate such events within the shortest time possible. Preserving any evidence is key, and best practices are observed at all times together with the ACPO guidelines for computer-based electronic evidence.
With the right strategy, system downtime would be kept to a minimum with little or no disruption to company operations. Imaging and triage procedures may be carried out on site with industry standard equipment.
Professional and expert witness services are offered in conjunction with any digital forensic investigation. Technical reports incorporating evidence gathered from multiple devices are drawn up and may be combined and analysed to provide a graphical timeline of events.
ACPO guidelines are adhered to and a complete audit trail of the investigation is kept. The latter would be available for verification by other independent forensic experts if necessary.
Court case proceedings, civil or criminal, more often than not involve the examination of computer equipment that may contain potential evidence and would therefore require technical expertise to extract, analyse and interpret such evidence.
Knowing what to examine and how far to take the investigation could have a significant bearing on the length of the case and the expenses involved. Our consultancy service extends to investigation strategies and advice, aiming to efficiently lower costs while increasing the possibility and quality of results.
Review of Experts Reports
Expert or professional reports presented in court must be independent, evidential and auditable. We may review third party reports and highlight any ambiguities or possible areas of inquiry. Situation dependent, we may also offer other learned opinions and conclusions as to why and when an incident occurred if these are not mentioned in the report.
We have been involved in multiple court cases as expert witnesses with regards to forensic accounting. Through the synergy of the both the Forensic Accounting and the Digital Forensics departments, we are able to offer both services in unison.
Financial records recovery from computer equipment may be processed immediately by our CPAs and auditors before any new lines of enquiry are passed back to our computer forensic experts.
This enables us to better inform the client of the time it would take for an investigation and would keep overheads at a minimum by maximising the efficiency of the investigation.
We can provide digital investigation and examination services in both Civil and Criminal proceedings. In the Criminal field, our services may be offered during the investigations carried out by the Inquiring Magistrate during an Inquest and also during the compilation of evidence before the Court of Magistrates. In the Civil field, our services may be offered as part of an investigation on a particular claim and also as expert witnesses on a particular issue. Each investigation will yield a detailed and comprehensive report on the results achieved.
Evidence extraction is possible from all sorts of digital media including computers, hard drives, pen drives, mobile phones, tablets, GPS devices, digital cameras and CCTV systems. Moreover, evidence gathered from multiple devices may be aggregated and analysed to provide a better picture of events as well as a graphical timeline.
Independent and scientific expert reports are drawn up to the highest standard and ACPO guidelines are of course followed throughout the examinations. The latest specialised industry-recognised hardware and software will be used for all investigations and a comprehensive log of all actions taken would be available for other independent experts to verify if necessary. Where necessary, academic research shall be conducted to establish possible causes of a particular incident together with documented experiments.
